Gear Up Girl - GUG - Weekend #1 has been SOLD OUT!

Oh Canberra – what a weekend you just put on for us! Raining cats and dogs in Sydney, perfect riding weather in Canberra.

Leaving Sydney on Saturday morning in the pouring rain made us all feel a little apprehensive about the weather in Canb … come Goulburn no more rain then Sparrow was just magic. Big thanks for Peter Dowse from CBH for the great skills session. Then it was time to head off on a lap of ‘the bird’. I won’t bore you with the rest of the details but the afternoon ride, all you can eat dinner at the AIS, including cheesecake, followed by beers in the evening. Come Sunday morning it was still perfect weather and we were off to Stromlo for a few laps on the amazing trails. The trail fairies have done some work as of late and the track runs beautifully. Just one more thank you to the weather gods, it started to rain just after we had the bikes on the trailer and beginning to eat lunch under cover. After our own showers and a coffee stop we headed back North, back into the rain!

We have some great trips coming up! Of course we have the Canberra trips but we also have a few trips different rides of the horizon. Transport to the MTBO Nationals, not to forget The Mont plus a trip down the South Coast for a four day bonanza.

Before Christmas I decided to spoil myself and hit the road to check out some of the mountain bike trails and decide which single track trails between Sydney and Melbourne should be added to our bag of mountain bike trips. The itinerary was pencilled in, then the accommodation was booked and there was no turning back! Come that Tuesday morning I was off, headed out and smiling to myself as all those on the M5 were heading off to work and I was headed off to play in the dirt.

The basic seven day itinerary was Goulburn, Albury, Beechworth, Mt Beauty, Mt Buller, Castlemaine, day off. Tathra, Manna Park/Mandini, Bermagui, Batemans Bay/Mogo and Nowra.

An amazing time was had at all the places. Christmas came just in time, a chance to eat my weight in food, all in the need for recovery and time to relax. What's more I met some great people along the way and what's even better is that we've not added a heap of new places to ride. To see a few more of the photos from the trip check out the Gallery.

MTNBIKE.COM.AU offers fully catered mountain bike trips from Sydney to Canberra. The weekend trips are all about riding and experiencing what Canberra has to offer mountain bikers – flowing single track.

The bus and purpose built trailer depart the first weekend of each month on Saturday morning and return Sunday night. The cost for the weekend is $299. This covers accommodation, food and all transport. Accommodation is at the Australian Institute of Sport.

These trips are for all levels of riders – that’s the beauty of the trails in Canberra. A skills session and guides are provided for all levels of ability. At the skills session you’ll learn how to brake, corner and jump. If you don't have a bike one can be rented for the weekend.
